| BTW here is some more info, Mario used to be called jumpman. Jumpman -- known today as Mario -- must traverse levels (structures) to save his girlfriend, Pauline, from Donkey Kong before time runs out. The levels include Girders, Rivets, Elevators, and Conveyor Belts. Mario must avoid flames, barrels, and bouncing rivets to reach his goal.

The word "donkey", in Donkey Kong, is a play on the Japanese word for "stupid". Pauline is the name of Mario's girlfriend in Donkey Kong. In the Japanese version, her name is Lady, but she got her name changed when Nintendo released the Famicom version.

| Jumpman was just the other name for the game: Donkey Kong, as you said below, but did you know that Mario's first game was not Jumpman/Donkey Kong? Who knows what Nintendo was thinking when they designed Wrecking Crew? Were they trying make a simulation of construction, or rather deconstruction? Were they trying to copy lode runner? Or did they just need another game starring Mario? Whatever the inspiration was the result is a classic game. The game is a standard puzzle game starring everyone's favorite plumber, Mario.

| Jumpman was the other name for Mario, before he was named Mario, his name was changed to Mario in the NES games, jumpman wasnt another name for the game, the game was always called Donkey kong, well it was originaly supposed to be called 'Monkey Kong' Wrecking crew was available in 1998, Donkey Kong was around before that.
Edit: Donkey kong was around in the 80's |
| | | | what i want to know is not why they changed from jumpman to mario but why they changed from pauline to peach? what the hell? |
| | | The name peach didnt actually come around for a long time, infact I cant remember seeing it before the N64. Before that she was always known as princess toadstool.
They do it all the time with games, the worst one IMO being that fact that Ivo Robotnik became Dr Eggman in sonic and his former name seems to have been completely dropped. |

Eggman is the name the japanese used in their versions, and I guess Team Sonic just started using that, though Dr Robotnik was a much better name. Peach was once called Daidy in the Mario Bro's on the Gameboy, though she interpreted as someone else in a Mario Party game I think. |

| | I don't even think Mario is a plumber. I've never seen him with a wrench or a pipe in his hand. |
